KARACHI, Nov 25: Pakistan’s top player Aqeel Khan left here for Bangkok on Monday to compete in the Asian Tennis Championship being held from Nov 27 to Dec 2.

The event is being held at the Asian Tennis Academy which is at one hour’s drive from the Thai capital.

This is the second time Aqeel will be featuring in the regional competition the previous being in Uzbekistan six to seven years back. The men’s singles winner will be eligible to get a wildcard for the Thai Open in 2014.

Aqeel said he is bearing his travelling expenses while the accommodation will be provided by the hosts.

The Davis Cupper said after his arrival he will compete in a national ranking event at Lahore followed by a visit to Iran to take part in the Club league.

He said he might have a short stint to Sri Lanka to prepare their team for Asia Oceania zone group two Davis Cup tie later.—Sports Correspondent
