KARACHI, Nov 26: Promising Israr Ahmed and Kashif Asif, both from Punjab, lived up to their billing by making it to last four in boys’ under-19 and under-17 categories respectively in the fifth Roshan Khan juniors open squash at PN Roshan-Jahangir Squash Complex on Tuesday.
Israr, who won British juniors under-15 title last year, inflicted straight 11-6, 11-6, 11-5 defeat on Omer Allauddin to reach semi-finals where he was joined by top seeded players Tayyab Aslam, Asim Khan and Abbas shoukat.
Kashif, losing finalist of British juniors under-13 last year, accounted for Javed Ali 11-7, 11-5, 11-0 to cross yet another hurdle as unseeded Ahmed Ali of Punjab removed second seed Mehran Javed of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 12-10, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9 in 61 minutes duel. They were joined in the semis by top seed Ali Karamat and sixth seed Sumaid Rasheed.
M. Denial Ghanoori of Iran, the lone foreigner who is competing in the event, coasted to 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 victory over Ibtisam Riaz (Punjab) to cruise into boys’ under-11 semis.Meanwhile, with one exception, the girls’ under-19 and under-17 quarters witnessed walkovers. In the only under-17 match, Sindh’s Madina Zafar outplayed province-mate Humera 11-0, 11-1, 11-0 to through to semi-final.
The semi-finals will be played on Wednesday while the event concludes on Thursday.
