THIS is with reference to Dr Maqsood Jafri’s letter ‘UN’s shortcomings’ (Nov 19). I suggest that the strength of the UN’s Security Council’s permanent members should be increased to seven.
India and Pakistan both should be inducted as permanent members of the Security Council.
None of the permanent members should have veto powers.
Furthermore, nine temporary members should be elected for a tenure of two years.

"Pakistan" A country, which does not know how to secure herself and still struggling for survival from the day it was born, what do they know and /or have to offer to other nations of the UN on matters of security. Keep dreaming Mr. Naqvi at no charge.

Security Council should stay the way it is and no increase in permanent members. But the General Assembly should be able to overturn any Veto by a 2/3rd majority. Also, if any member country of the Security council is involved in a dispute which is being voted on for action, shall not be able to vote even if it is a permanent member and have to abide by the resolution. That way monopoly of Veto yielding powers will reduce.
