MARDAN, Nov 28: Scores of people blocked the Mardan-Charsadda Road here the other day after a taxi driver abducted five days ago was found murdered in a nullah. The protesters placed the victim’s body on the road and chanted slogans against the police.

The demonstrators ended the protest after Superintendent of Police, Mardan, Faisal Shehzad assured them of arresting the accused forthwith. He also assured them that an inquiry would be carried out against SHO Mohammad Nabi Khan of Saddar police station for not taking timely action against the accused.

Officials of Sheikh Maltoon Town police station, in whose jurisdiction the body of the taxi driver identified as Rahimdad alias Ramdad was found, said that the victim didn’t return home located in Munsub village after leaving it on the evening of November 22.

Meanwhile, the victim’s relatives said that both Saddar and city police stations refused to register case into the incident, citing reasons of jurisdiction. They said that Sheikh Maltoon police registered case after some residents of Ghaladhere locality spotted a body lying in a nullah on Wednesday morning and informed the police. —Correspondent
