Schedule for vacant seats to be issued within eight days

QUETTA: The Election Commission of Pakistan said that the schedule for 513 vacant seats of the Local Bodies polls in Balochistan would be issued within eight days, according to DawnNews. Moreover, the official results of the polls held on December 7 would be announced on December 10.

According to the ECP, the election for chairman union council and district council would be held after the election on vacant seats. However, the chairman union council and the district council would be elected indirectly.

Independent candidates were leading the outcome of the Local Bodies polls held in Balochistan followed by candidates belonging to parties in the province's ruling coalition government, according to unofficial results announced.

The results of 1190 seats out of 1585 seats were announced in which independent candidates bagged 518 seats whereas the National Party (NP) and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) grabbed 152 and 130 seats respectively.

The Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) got 129 seats and the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) secured 113 seats in the province.

The local bodies’ elections were held largely in peaceful manner in Balochistan on Saturday, amid tight security.

Around 18,000 candidates are in the run for 4,600 seats of local bodies, including Quetta Metropolitan Corporation, four municipal corporations, 53 municipal committees and 32 district councils.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, 2,507 candidates have been elected unopposed and 508 seats have remained vacant because no candidate has filed nomination papers for them.

Final results of the polls would be announced on December 10.
