PESHAWAR: Awami National Party's central spokesman Zahid Khan on Monday said that despite promises of bringing change to the province, the party had failed to fulfill the promise of holding municipal elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking to media representatives at the Parliament House in Islamabad, the ANP Senator said that despite being in power for six months, the PTI had failed to take the necessary steps for holding local government elections in KP.

The senior ANP leader accused the PTI of introducing "Klashnikov culture" in KP, adding that the nationalists in Balochistan were more democratic and had ensured the holding of a local government elections in that province.

The schedule for holding local body elections in KP would be issued in the first week of January.

Khan said the sit-in staged by the PTI and its allies in KP had affected around 500,000 transporters, adding that Imran Khan's party was pushing the country towards a state of anarchy and that the policies of his provincial government were anti-Pakhtun.

The Senator questioned as to why Sindh was not blocking Nato supplies and urged the PTI to stage sit-ins in other provinces to ensure that the supply routes passing from there also be blocked.

He moreover said that the KP government had failed to establish peace in and eliminate corruption from the province.
