KARACHI: At least seven Rangers’ personnel were injured Thursday in a remote-controlled blast, in Karachi’s eastern neighbourhood of Landhi, DawnNews reported.

The blast took place in Landhi 89, close to Gulshan-e-Buner area. “A roadside remote-controlled bomb planted on a motorbike went off near a vehicle carrying 10 Rangers officials, wounding seven of them,” senior local police official Faisal Noor told AFP.

A local intelligence official also confirmed the incident.

Later, the wounded persons were shifted to Jinnah Hospital for treatment. The condition of two officials was critical.

Following the explosion, a search operation went underway in the area.

The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team personnel said "between four to five kilograms of explosive material was used in the bomb."

Meanwhile, more than seven suspicious persons were detained from the site of incident.

Rangers are currently taking part in a joint operation with police in Karachi aimed at cleansing the city of terrorists and other hardcore criminals including hired killers, gun runners and drug peddlers.

Karachi, a city of 18 million people which contributes 42 per cent of Pakistan's GDP, has been plagued by sectarian, ethnic and political violence for years.
