RAWALPINDI, June 14: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Rawalpindi, on Saturday declared the results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination 2003 with the pass percentage standing at 43.51.

Controller Examinations Professor Humayun Iqbal presented the salient features of the results at a ceremony held at a private college. Position-holder students, their parents and teachers attened the ceremony.

Prof Iqbal said 101,218 candidates, including 43,463 regular students, appeared in the examination, out of which 43,992 were declared successful.

Mehvish Latif Raja and Sundus Arshad of Siddeeq Public School, Satellite Town, bagged overal first and second positions by securing 787 and 783 marks respectively. Munir Ahmad of Cadet College, Hassanabdal, secured third position by obtaining 778 marks.

Giving further break-up, the controller said the pass percentage among girls and boys was 55.43 and 35 respectively. Out of the total 59,349 male candidates, 20,811 passed the examination whereas out of 41,857 female students, 23,192 passed the examination. He said as many as 46 cases of unfair means were registered during the examination.

About 23,701 candidates appeared in the science group out of whom 16,303 passed the examination. The number of private candidates who appeared in science group is 22740 out of whom 7176 have passed whereas 15358 have failed with a pass percentage of 31.57.

About 144 candidates have been detained. The results of these candidates would be declard after settlement of their cases. The results of about 103 students have been withheld on account of non-payment of examination fees. These candidates have been asked to deposit their fees for declaration of their result.

Examination for the supplementary examination 2003 will commence from July 26. Unsuccessful candidates have been asked to apply up to July 5, 2003 after which no application will be entertained.
