LAHORE, Oct 11: The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD), a coalition of 16 parties representing various shades of opinion, stands divided on policy towards the Musharraf government as it completes its two years in power on Friday (today).

The alliance had decided some weeks ago that Oct 12 would be observed as a black day as it marked the overthrow of an elected government.

However, contrary to the decision, not all parties will observe the day as black day. The PPP is following a pro-Musharraf policy to the annoyance of many other alliance components and it has no plan to take part in any activity aimed at criticizing the government.

The PML(N), another major component of the ARD, will, however, observe the day by holding a meeting at the residence of a local leader.

Vice-President Tehmina Daultana told reporters on Thursday that provincial president and secretary-general of the party would address the meeting.

Alliance chief Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan is due to arrive here on Friday from his Khangarh residence. However, it is not clear what he will be doing on the second anniversary of the government. — Staff Reporter
