KHAIRPUR, June 15: The Hesco, Ranipur division, disconnected the power supply to about 50 villages of three union councils — Rasoolabad, Hingorja and Ranipur — on Saturday for non-payment of bills.
The names of some of the villages have been ascertained as Rakrani, Bhutta, Bhunbhra, Tanwari, Janwari, Mallah, Kurur, Ghaho, and Mangi.
When this correspondent contacted a Hesco official, he claimed that almost 80 per cent consumers of these villages had not paid their arrears due to which the electric supply to these villages has been disconnected.
He said that a magistrate would be appointed to register cases against the defaulters.
He claimed that officials involved in power theft would be taken to task.
The villagers belonging to these villages held a protest demonstration against Hesco officials in front of the Ranipur Press Club.
They said that Hesco officials had disconnected the electric supply to their villages to cover their line losses and no arrears remained outstanding against the villagers.
DEMO: The villagers and growers of various villages of Kingri Taluka held a protest demonstration on Saturday against Hesco officials for disconnecting the electric supply to about 50 villages two weeks back.
Speaking on the occasion, they said that Hesco officials had disconnected the electric supply without any reason.
They threatened to hold a protest sit-in on the Pir-Jo-Goth-Sukkur link road on June 20 if the power supply to their villages was not restored soon.
PROTEST: The villagers of the Bhandi village, Sobhodero Taluka, held a demonstration against Hesco officials on Saturday for disconnecting the power supply to their village a month back.
They told newsmen that Hesco officials had neither replaced nor repaired the transformer which was damaged about a month back.
TWO KILLED: Two people were killed and nine others were injured when a truck and a wagon collided head-on on the National Highway, near Tando Masti, Khairpur Taluka, on Sunday.
The truck driver, Pir Mohammad Shah, and the wagon driver, Ali Nawaz Brohi, died on the spot.
The injured were identified as Pir Zubair Shah (truck cleaner), Blami Baghari, Janki Baghari, Ghuran Bai, Perman Baghari, Meenghi Baghari, Chandar Mal, Ladho Mal and Daulat Ram.
They have been admitted to the Civil Hospital, Khairpur.
Four — Ghuran, Meenghi, Chandar, Ladho and Daulat — whose condition was stated to be critical have been sent to a hospital in Nawabshah.
