HYDERABAD, March 16: The Water and Sanitation Agency is launching operation against 5,000 defaulters from March 18 to recover outstanding dues amounting to millions of rupees. The agency announced a relief of 10 per cent for defaulters who would pay their arrears in one instalment. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the agency called upon domestic consumers to take advantage of the scheme and contact Wasa’s help line 9200757 for guidance. It said the recovery teams along with a recovery magistrate would take action against defaulters under the Land Revenue Act 1967.

Notices for disconnection of water supply to defaulters of three talukas have already been issued by the agency.

The bulk water supply consumers who have defaulted on payment in the Hyderabad taluka include the Rabia square, Al-Rahim shopping centre, Farooqui centre, Al-Noor plaza, Arif plaza, Sana plaza, Al-Waheed square, Wahab plaza, Hina centre, Daim plaza, Madina apartments, Tawakal builders shopping centre, city centre, Safdar centre, Al-Karim building, capital plaza, Suria plaza, Saima plaza and Qadir plaza.

The main defaulters in the Latifabad taluka had been identified as Siddique plaza, Bismillah square, Rafique square, Anarkali centre, Sakhi Wahab plaza, Nadeem square, Mohammad Ali complex, Mehran heights, doctors’ square and silver apartments.

In the Qasimabad taluka, the defaulters have been identified as Sharif square, GOR flats, Naseem apartments, Al-Hamid apartments, Saim luxury apartments, Dahraj centre, Abdullah centre, Dhoraji flats, Mehran centre and Al-Farid plaza.

In the campaign against individual consumers, Wasa disconnected water supply to 130 consumers and seized 37 motors directly installed on water pipelines.

Inquiries by Dawn revealed that a total amount of Rs1521.012 million is outstanding against federal and provincial government departments, Hesco, commercial consumers and domestic consumers.
