Asghar beaten in semis: Boxing

KARACHI, March 30: Asghar Ali Shah went down to eventual champion Anil Moharramov of Azerbaijan 14-18 in the semifinal of Prof. Anwar Chowdhry International Boxing tournament in Baku. Moharramov is a European gold medallist and world cadet chamnpion, was also declared the best boxer at the meet.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) on Wednesday named six-member boxing squad for 27th Kings Cup Boxing Championship scheduled to be held in Bangkok (Thailand) next month.

The team consists of Samiullah (54 KG), Meherullah (57 KG), Zahid Hussain (60 KG), Dur Muhammad (69 KG), Shoukat Ali Chatta (91 KG) and Muzaffar Iqbal (Plus 91 KG).

Rear Admiral Noman Shabbir (chef-de-mission), Shah Naeem Zafar (manager and Munir Ahmed (coach) and Hajio Khudae Rahim (referee/judge) are the officials.

KPT is sponsoring the trip of four boxers and an official. Pakistan team will leave for Bangkok on April 5.

Pakistan returned with one gold, one silver and a bronze from King’s Cup last year.
