SUKKUR, July 9: An announcement by Hesco about 14-hour halt in power supply on Monday in the city of Sukkur and adjoining areas has caused a lot of worry and resentment among people.
Hesco authorities said that the load-shedding would be carried out for maintenance.
The announcement sparked resentment among the people who are already facing hardships due to frequent power outages, low voltage and load-shedding for the past one month.
Despite protest demonstrations, unannounced load-shedding was continuing and there was no respite.
The problem of frequent tripping of feeders, low voltage and issuing of detection bills were persisting and it seems that Hesco turned a deaf ear to the hue and cry of the people.
The people of Sukkur, Rohri, Kandhra, Salehpat and Pano Akil said that prolonged load-shedding was aimed at to cover line losses occurred due to power theft with connivance of Hesco officials.
Immediately after the announcement about Monday’s 14-hour load-shedding, long queue of people were seen at various petrol pumps, buying petrol to run generators while sale of generators was also on the rise to cope up with frequent power outages in this sizzling hot season.
Many people on streets were heard saying that Hesco in the name of maintenance was carrying out hours long load-shedding just to cover line losses.
They said that issuing of unjust and wrong detection bills had made lives of people miserable.
