HYDERABAD, July 9: Ms Iqbal Khatoon, an old widow, has appealed to Sindh chief minister, Jamshoro district nazim and DPO to provide her protection from some ruffians who she said were trying to force her out of a room in a government dispensary where she works and lives with her ailing mother.

Speaking at a news conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Sunday, Ms Khatoon demanded that the authorities direct police to register an FIR against the miscreants.

She said that she worked at the dispensary in Wapda Colony, Jamshoro and lived with her 80-year-old ailing mother in a room in it.

She said that about half a dozen men barged into her room on July 7 in the evening, ransacked it and ordered her to leave it.

But she refused and started shrieking which brought her neighbours rushing to her rescue. This frightened the men and they took to their feet, she said.

Ms Khatoon said that she sought police’s help but they refused to register an FIR dismissing even the medical reports that proved she had sustained injuries from manhandling by the ruffians.

She said that she was still receiving threats from them to vacate the room and appealed to the chief minister to order police to take action against the miscreants.

She said in answer to a question that she had already informed her department and the officials concerned about the incident.

Her nephew, Ameer Ali Panhwar, who was with her during the press conference read out a written press statement which she corroborated.
