India summons US ambassador over diplomat detention

NEW DELHI: India on Friday summoned the US ambassador to New Delhi to protest the detention of one of its senior diplomats in New York, the foreign ministry said.
“She (Ambassador Nancy Powell) has already been summoned by the Foreign Secretary (Sujatha Singh),” ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin told AFP.
The move comes after the Indian embassy in Washington said its deputy consul general in New York was taken into custody on Thursday while she was dropping her daughter off at school.

While law is law and must be respected but over-reaction is equally bad. The first thing to be done is summon or ask the person to explain his/her side in cases of fraud. You can not just handcuff a person based on wage dispute. There is a long list of highhandedness as well as over the top approach by US departments. The harassment at airport is being justified in name of security, what justification for handcuffing a person without letting him/her explain his/her side of story is there when half of work force in major US cities comes from illegal immigrants ?

India's Deputy Consul General was arrested in US due to fraud in visa! thanks to American Law that she was handcuffed in public, while dropping her daughter to elementary school.

Why the discrimination between Indian and Russian diplomats? An Indian diplomat gets arrested over the alleged visa fraud. But Russian diplomats who are facing allegations of misusing social security benefits,do not get arrested. We would like to know the reaction of India-born US attorney,on this issue.
