ISLAMABAD, June 18: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on late Wednesday night decided to move a no-confidence motion against the National Assembly speaker and resist any move by the government to recognize Israel.

This was stated by MMA secretary-general Maulana Fazlur Rehman in his briefing to reporters after the MMA component parties heads meeting at the residence of JI chief, Qazi Hussain Ahmed.

He said the move would be submitted in the National Assembly in a day or two and contacts would be made with other parties to make it a success.

Maulana Fazl warned that the MMA would resist any move by the government to recognize Israel. If any deal in this regard was made by Gen Pervez Musharraf at Camp David would face tough resistance put by the alliance.

Replying to a question the MMA secretary-general said they have still kept door opened for talks but it seemed that the government had closed the door.

The heads of all the component parties of the religio-political alliance also reviewed political situation in the country and vowed to continue their struggle for the sovereignty of parliament.

The meeting, held at the residence of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed, was attended by MMA president Shah Ahmed Noorani, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Liaquat Baloch, Maulana Samiul Haq and Allama Sajid Naqvi.

It was first political gathering attended by the JI chief, Qazi Hussain Ahmed after getting discharged from a hospital in Lahore.

The MMA leaders also reviewed the performance of the NWFP government. He said the leaders had expressed their concern over the constant meddling by the federal government in the provincial matters.

On the issue of controversial LFO, he said, the MMA would take decision after consultation with leaders of other opposition parties as all opposition parties were united on the issue. He, however, said the MMA leaders had rejected the ruling given by the speaker on the LFO.

The MMA leaders also criticized the ruling party for presenting a resolution in the Senate assuring support to Gen Musharraf in his tour to the US and European nations.

Earlier, representatives of tenants of Okara military farms also held a meeting with the MMA leaders and apprised them of the latest situation.
