Nato tanker torched in Balochistan

QUETTA: Militants torched a tanker carrying fuel for US and Nato troops in Balochistan's Khuzdar district on Tuesday, a levies official said.

Muhammad Riaz, a levies official told Dawn.com motorcycle-riding gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at a tanker near Wadh tehsil of Khuzdar district.

The tanker caught fire as result of intense firing.

Riaz said the militants sped away on their motorcycle after the attack whereas the driver of the tanker managed to escape unhurt.

Huge plumes of thick black smoke and roaring flames were visible from a long distance, Riaz added.

Fire brigade from Khuzdar district rushed to put out the blaze.

No group or individual had claimed responsibility for the attack till the filing of this report.

Militants have been targeting Nato supplies in Balochistan's Khuzdar, Kalat, Mastung, Bolan districts since more than six years and most of the attacks have not been claimed by any militant group.

Nato supplies coming from Karachi's port Qasim pass through deserts and rugged mountains of Balochistan on their way to neighboring Afghanistan to supply fuel to allied forces.
