SAHIWAL, June 20: A caravan of seven journalists, protesting the closure of 12 Sindhi language newspapers, arrived at the local press club on Friday.
Starting their march from Hyderabad, the journalists have reached the district under the leadership of Ghulam Rasool Sato. They were accorded a warm welcome at the club.
Mr Sato said the protest campaign, including sit-in outside parliament, would be continued till the withdrawal of orders of the newspapers’ closure.
ELECTROCUTED: A man and his niece were electrocuted at Akbar village on Friday.
Reports said Sughran, while hanging clothes on an iron wire, sustained shocks and died instantly. Her uncle Abdul Ghaffar, who rushed towards her, was also electrocuted.
CM ORDERS: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has ordered registration of a case against the Sahiwal tehsil municipal officer, who allegedly took bribe to issue house documents.
Complainant Haji Muhammad Rafiq informed the chief minister that he wanted to get a certificate of his brother’s house which TMO Shafqar Sindhu issued him after taking Rs15,000. He added that the police did not register a case against him.
The chief minister on Friday directed the DCO to order registration of a case without delay.
