RAWALPINDI, June 21: The additional district and sessions judge on Saturday awarded life imprisonment to a person for killing his cousin over a family dispute.

The judge also imposed a Rs50,000 fine on the convict, Navid Anjum, and acquitted his father, Mohammad Arabi, a co-accused in the case, for lack of evidence against him.

The court observed that in case of non-payment of fine, the convict would have to serve another six-month jail term. The prosecution had contended before the court that the convict had axed to death one of his cousins, Navid Anjum, over a family dispute.

DARUL AMAN: A judge of a family court sent a 15-year old girl to Darul Aman.

The judge, Shazia Zafar Raja, took the move of sending Sehrish to Darul Aman as the latter had challenged the legality of her marriage to Yasin. She said Yasin, who was an aged man, was the friend of her deceased father. After the death of her father, Sehrish said, Yasin forced her to sign blank papers of Nikahnama at gunpoint and later added her name in the documents.

Sehrish further revealed that Yasin had also assaulted her at gunpoint. She said the man kept her in illegal detention, but she managed to escape. She contended before the court that under the law of the land she was a minor and her marriage was illegal. The court has directed Yasin to appear in person and fight his case.

Meanwhile, the judge of the anti-terrorism court No 2, Manzoor Ahmed Mirza, recorded the statements of three prosecution witnesses in the PML-N Kashmir rally terrorism case.

Fifteen PML-N activists, included central senior vice president Syed Zafar Ali Shah, information secretary Siddiqul Farooq, divisional general secretary of Muslim Students Federation (MSF) Mohammad Riaz Gujar, Zaigham Shah, Babar Awan, Dr Ayaz, Tanveer Akhtar Shaikh, Farooq Khattak, Maqbool Ahmed Khan, Rana Nadeem and Zafar Raja were present on the occasion.

According to the prosecution, the PML-N activists, in June last year, had allegedly disturbed public order and committed terrorism while taking out Kashmir rally in Raja Bazaar. The prosecution witnesses maintained that the accused had allegedly chanted anti-government/Musharraf slogans during the rally.

They said the accused had also violated Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order.

The defence counsel, however, denied the charges and held the policemen responsible for resorting to illegal baton-charge on a peaceful, lawful and pro-Kashmir rally without any reason and legal grounds.

WARRANTS ISSUED: The judicial magistrate, Khawar Kamal, issued the non-bailable warrants for the arrest of three police officials of R.A. Bazaar police station for not complying with the directives of the court.

The court issued the arrest warrants of the sub-inspector (SI), Mohammad Saeed and assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), Mohammad Asad and Zahid Akbar, for not appearing before the court after receiving summons owing to which progress in the trial of some criminal cases were facing inordinate delay.
