ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court on Friday directed the cabinet division to provide a bullet proof vehicle within three days to former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui issued the directive while hearing a plea filed by former president Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association Sheikh Ahsanuddin for provision of security to the former chief justice.
During the course of hearing, Joint Secretary of Cabinet Division, Ziaul-Haq appeared before the court and apprised that a bullet proof vehicle was given to former chief justice but it was not functioning properly adding that there was no any other such vehicle which could be provided to him.
However, he said that cabinet division would write a letter to the Prime Minister's Secretariat in this regard. Inspector General of Police Islamabad, Sikander Hayat apprised the court that only four security personnel have been deployed for the security of former chief Justice.
Those who violated the constitution were being provided foolproof security while the protector of the constitution was ignored and left in lurch without ensuring adequate security to them, Justice Siddiqui remarked.
Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui expressed displeasure over the non-provision of proper security to former chief justice and ordered the IGP to provide proper security to former chief justice and adjourned the matter till January 9.
