Sindh Open tennis begins

KARACHI, June 22: The Caltex Open Sindh Tennis Championship began on Sunday at the Modern Club.

In the Men’s first round matches played Alam Jahangir beat Essa Jee 6-0, 6-0, while Haris Iltifat had to work up a sweat in overcoming the likes of Ali Sadozai 6-3, 6-2. In another match, Amit Ali Khan shut out Syed Ahmer 6-2, 6-2.

In the boy’s under -14 event, Anas swept past Mustafa Diwan 6-1, 6-2. In other matches, Daniyal Alvi beat Salman Ahmed 6-1, 6-3, Atiq Qasim beat Bilal Anwer 6-0, 6-3 and Zain Saleem had to bring out his best in overcoming Mustafa Jamal 6-2, 6-4.

Hassan Mahmood is top seeded in the Men’s event, while Zarmeen Shoeb is ranked No.1 in the Ladies section.

Adnan Khan is top seeded in the Boys under-18 event and Mateen Arif is top seed in teh Boys under-14 event.
