FAISALABAD: University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s Institute of Horticulture Sciences and the Parks and Horticulture Authority on Monday inked a memorandum of understanding for beautification of the city.

The PHA will provide internship to students to get their expertise in decorating the city with the help of plants and flowers. The MoU was signed by UAF Associate Professor Dr Atif Riaz and PHA Managing Director Ashiq Husain Dogar.

UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the DCO said the UAF would provide technical support to the horticulture department for beautification purpose. He said around a 100 spots in the city had been selected for beautification with landscaping, plantation and flowers. He said experts from UAF would also be recruited in PHA.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said the Punjab government was making all-out efforts to provide facilities to the people.

He said as a result of the agreement, the PHA would get many experts in horticulture who would beautify the city. He said the CM’s internship programme would help address the issue of unemployment and give them practical knowledge.

UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad said the university was committed to providing state-of-the-art community services. “It is taking tangible steps in the shape of outreach programme to transform the knowledge into goods and services. A modern expo centre, which is first of its kind in the division, is being set up at the campus.”
