ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will seek an assistance of $700 million from the World Bank for the proposed Dasu hydropower project estimated to produce 1080MW of electricity.

The size of the run-of-river project, located on the Indus River 240km upstream from Tarbela dam, is 4,320MW. Given the financial constraint, however, the project will be developed in a phased manner starting from 1,080MW.

According to official sources, the World Bank has started the process to finance the project, and it has been decided that the International Development Association will finance the proposed unit.
