SUKKUR, June 25: Irregularities have been witnessed in awarding loans to government employees for purchasing houses.
It was learnt that officials concerned took 20 to 30 per cent commission from employees for quick disposal of their applications for loans from the provincial finance department. Under the Sindh government programme, an employee could obtain a loan equivalent to his 36-month salary.
In some cases, one employee was given loan twice while deserving applicants remained deprived of loans as they could not arrange commission.
The All Sindh Primary Teachers Association has also expressed concern over the matter. It claimed that 600 applicants in Sukkur, 65 in Rohri, 34 in Pano Aqil and 22 in Saleh Pat were given loans fraudulently.
The association demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter and alleged that officials of the education department were also involved in it.—Correspondent
