MULTAN: A spelling competition organised by Indus Research and Development Organisation (IRDO) was held here on Saturday.

A large number of students from six educational institutions of Multan, including Government Muslim Boys High School, Government Islamia Boys High School, Government Millat Boys High School, Government Islamia Girls High School, Government Muslim Girls High School, Government Girls High School Wasti Shorkot and Government Moonlight Girls High School Chowk Kumharanwala, participated in the competition.

Government Muslim Girls High School bagged the first position, Government Islamia Girls High School and Government Millat Boys High School stood second and third, respectively.

IRDO Vice President Saqib Awan said his organisation had been holding the ‘Access Spellathon’ for the last four years. He said the contest was a challenging preposition for students belonging to the privileged class to help them improve their vocabulary and correct use of the language.

Chief guest Dr Naveed Chaudhry, the head of English Department at Bahauddin Zakariya University, distributed prizes among the winners. He said proficiency in English gave confidence to students and helped them progress in their career. He commended the IRDO for holding healthy academic events essential for the personality development of students.
