CHITRAL: Ten persons were killed when a jeep plunged into a deep ravine on Chitral-Booni road here on Saturday morning, police said.

Eight of the dead belonged to the same family who were reportedly heading to Chitral town to attend a jirga to resolve a family feud, said the police, adding that the accident occurred near Barenis village in Darum Gol area.

An official of the local police told Dawn that the jeep (AD 5514) was on way to Chitral city from Shogram village when it skidded off the road after the driver lost control over it.

Police said that five persons, including Sardar Zaman, Mohammad Ishaque, Farhatullah, Javed Ahmed and Amanullah died on the spot.

Medical superintendent of DHQ hospital, Dr Noorul Islam said that five injured breathed their last in the hospital who were identified as Falaiqoos Khan, Naseerullah, Nadir Laal, Mohammad Ishque and the driver, Wazir Ahmed.

Mr Islam said that the only injured person of the accident, Saeedullah was in precarious condition. —Correspondent
