LAHORE: The Punjab government on Monday approved establishment of a medical college at Gujrat besides 14 other development schemes with an estimated cost of Rs13.259 billion.
The approval was granted in the 27th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party of 2013-14 fiscal year presided over by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Irfan Elahi.
The approved projects included establishment of Nawaz Sharif Medical College (University of Gujrat) and uplift of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed (DHQ) as teaching hospital in Gujrat district (second revised) at a cost of Rs2.023 billion; Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication (1C3) Programme at a cost of Rs583.453 million; construction of a bridge over Nullah Bein between Karial and Chammal villages and approach road in Shakargarh tehsil in Narowal district (length 4.60km) at a cost of Rs235.762 million and construction of an inverted stud for protection of Shahbazpur village on right bank of the River Chenab in Gujrat district at a cost of Rs103.335 million.
The approved scheme pertaining to widening and improvement of roads included from Pacca Qazi Wala to Madrissa (length 32km) in Bahawalnagar district at a cost of Rs455.75 million; from Chishtian-Haroonabad Road (Mile 3 to Aslam Shaheed Chowk, length 21km) in Bahawalnagar district at a cost of Rs274.816 million; from Qaimpur to Head Islam in Bahawalpur district (length 21km) at a cost of Rs292.065 million; from Yazman to Adda Tailwala in Bahawalpur district (length 16.15km) at a cost of Rs248.431 million; from Khanpur to Zahir Pir, (20ft to 24ft, length 19.53km) in Rahim Yar Khan at a cost of Rs294.74 million; Sohawa-Chakwal-Talagang-Mianwali Road (km No 176.39 to 216.76, length 40.37km) in Mianwali district at a cost of Rs1.695 billion; Sargodha-Gujrat Road (Section Jhal Chakkian to Bhalwal, 38.50km length) in Sargodha district (revised) at a cost of Rs592.789 million; from Hafizabad (Jinnah Chowk) to Pindi Bhattian Interchange (km No 48 to 79/03 and 83/73 to 99/06 with Jalalpur Bhattian Byepasss 5.09 km, length 51.45km) in Hafizabad district at a cost of Rs847.67 million.
The projects relating to dualisation of roads included Bahawalpur-Hasilpur Road (length 77.25km) in Bahawalpur district at a cost of Rs4614.512 million and Rawat to Kallar Syedan Road (length 19km) in Rawalpindi district at a cost of Rs997.61 million.
