SWABI: Unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle gunned down known money-changer Shaukat Ali and took away Rs3.8 million from his car here on Wednesday evening, police said.

Registering an FIR in Kalu Khan police station, Hamad Ali, son of Mr Shaukat, told police that his father was alone in his car when the assailants opened fire on him.

Mr Hamad said that when his father reached Mal Lara in Karnal Sher Kallay two motorcyclists appeared and opened fire on him.

As a result, he died on the spot and before fleeing the attackers collected Rs3.8 million from him. Mr Shaukat belonged to Karnal Sher Kallay and was one of the leading money-changers in the area.

It was the second such incident in the district during last few months. Earlier, Gohar Ali of Maneri Bala was shot dead in a similar fashion.
