SWABI: Teachers and other employees of Working Folks Grammar Schools in Swabi district have not received their salary for the last three months.

Sources said that the federal finance division had failed to release funds to the Workers Welfare Board (WWB) for the last three months due to unknown reason.

When contacted, parents of the students said that the transporters had also refused to provide pick and drop facility to the workers’ children owing to unavailability of funds. As such, many children are missing their studies due to lack of transport facility.

There are two Working Folk Grammar Schools in Swabi district; one in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate and the other at Shahmansoor.

The sources said that teachers, clerical staff, watchmen and gardeners of the schools were perturbed over long delay in release of their salaries. They said that annual examinations of secondary classes under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Mardan, would start from March 13. “At such a crucial time the teachers would definitely remain disturbed. They and the other staff may not deliver if they do not receive their salaries,” said a teacher.

The employees confirmed that they had not received salary for November, December and January. “When the teaching staff is not paid salaries for three consecutive months how could they work with devotion and concentration,” said an educationist.

The staff unanimously demanded immediate release of funds to WWB and payment of salaries to them.
