SAHIWAL: Kites and flowers were the most sought-after items in Sahiwal on Friday as the people celebrated both Basant and Valentine’s Day at a mass scale.

Florists located at the High Street, College Chowk, Devalue Bazaar, Farid Town and Mall Mandi attracted a huge rush on Thursday and Friday making the most of the public demand for flowers and bouquets. They sold a dozen of flowers from R60 to 300.

Florist Hammad Afzal said a packed red rose with ribbon was sold at Rs25 to 30. The buyers included youngsters, couples and families.

Also, colourful kites dotted the skylines and main shows were organised in Dhobi Muhalla, Farid Town and Parnami Mohalla.

ACCIDENT: Two motorcyclists died when a car hit them on Multan Road on Friday.

Yousafwala police said the car passengers also included bridegroom Faraz, whose wedding was to be held in Sahiwal.

Rescue 1122 sources said motorcyclists Rana Younis and Sakhi Ahmed, of Yousafwala, died at the scene.

Yousafwala police arrested the car diver and the bridegroom and later released the bridegroom and detained his brother and the driver.

ROBBERY: Fourteen gunmen looted Rs258,000 from a petrol pump at Pull Rakh, Pakpattan, and fled.

Pump owner Munir Ahmed told police the gang arrived late on Thursday and looted the cash.

In another incident, thieves stole a generator and 121 engine oil canes from a shop in Noorpur.

Also, four gunmen took away batteries and a generator from a tower station.
