KARACHI: A young man was shot dead in a suspected sectarian attack in Orangi Town on Tuesday, police said.

They added that Syed Azeem Hussain, 22, was attacked outside his home in Orangi Sector 11-½. He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. The deceased worked at a jewellery shop, said an official at the Market police station.

The victim was Shia and his murder might be related to sectarianism, said SSP (west) Irfan Baloch.

In another incident in Orangi Town, an employee of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) was gunned down, officials said.

The Pakistan Bazaar police said Mohammed Feroz Hussain, 35, was on his way to his office on a motorcycle when armed motorcyclists attacked him in the slum area of Sadiqabad. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the officials said.

SHO Pervez Gujjar believed that the murder was outcome of some personal enmity.

Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen condemned the killings of three Shias within a span of 12 hours.

Addressing a press conference, Abdullah Mutaheri, political secretary of Sindh MWM, said: “During 12 hours, three Shias — Shahab Naqvi, Feroz Hussain and Azeem Hussain — were killed.”

Within a month, he said, at least 52 Shias had been killed.

He said the MWM would stage demonstrations across the province and surround the Chief Minister’s House in protest against the killings if the government failed to act against the terrorists.
