ISLAMABAD, June 28: Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto has condoled the death of former attorney-general Yahya Bakhtiar.

In a letter addressed to the widow of Mr Bakhtiar, she paid tribute to him as a “symbol of integrity and steadfastness who put the defence of innocents above his personal advancement.” When the Bhutto government was overthrown in 1977, Yahya Bakhtiar lived up to the greatest of Pukhtun traditions by showing honour and courage in defending former premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto against the false charge of murder, she said.
