KARACHI: Explosive substances were found near the office of a TV channel in Site area on Tuesday in what is being seen here as part of a planned move to harass the media.

SP Site Fida Hussain Janwari said that a ‘cracker-like’ thing placed in a shopper bag was found outside a mosque near the offices of ARY news channel and was defused. He said that after attacks on the offices of Waqt TV and Aaj TV near Guru Mandir roundabout on Monday night, two police mobiles were deployed at the main gate of ARY offices. “This botched attempt may be part of the ongoing move by suspected militants to harass the media.”

The SP said ARY news channel received threats from a banned sectarian organisation about a year ago when it had aired a perceived controversial programme.
