PESHAWAR: Police conducted an operation in several areas of Peshawar Friday and detained 25 suspects, DawnNews reported.

The Bana Mari police conducted raids in the areas of Bahadur Kallay, Kamarudin Ghari, Ghari Ata Mohammad and Javedabad.

Subsequently, 25 suspects were taken into custody whereas arms and ammunition were seized from their possession.

Moreover, police also registered a case against the detained suspects and started further investigation.

Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, lies on the edge of Pakistan's tribal areas which have been labeled by Washington as the main sanctuary for Al Qaeda and Taliban militants in the country.

The city has seen frequent attacks by militants in the past few years, with targets ranging from civilians to policemen and other law enforcement personnel.
