NEW DELHI: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president N. Srinivasan on Friday evaded a direct reply on Zee Media Corp’s sting operation on the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting and fixing scandal but assured that appropriate steps will be taken to protect the sport.

When questioned by the reporters, Srinivasan merely came with the response that the case was still sub judice.

“The matter is sub judice and as far as sport is concerned, the BCCI will take every action to protect the sport,” Srinivasan said.

IPL chief Ranjib Biswal too declined to comment on the matter.

In the latest development in the IPL match-fixing case, the Tamil Nadu Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) issued fresh summons to accused Gurunath Meiyappan, Vindoo Dara Singh and hotelier Vikram Aggarwal.

The CB-CID notice to all accused was sent shortly after the Tamil Nadu government suspended senior police officer G. Sampath Kumar — who had earlier probed IPL betting case before it was handed over to CB-CID, for allegedly receiving money from a bookie.

Zee Media Corp’s sensational sting operation showed Bollywood actor Vindu Dara Singh, who was also named in the IPL fixing scandal of 2013, making startling revelations in the case and alleging that some high and mighty from the arena of Indian sports and politics were involved in instances of betting and match fixing.

Vindu has revealed that the entire IPL match-fixing fiasco was actually a tussle between Union Agriculture Minister and NCP chief Sharad Pawar and N. Srinivasan.—Agencies
