RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has decided to remove chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi Prof Ghulam Mohammad Jhaggar.

He will be replaced by Principal Asghar Mall College Dr Mohammad Zareef, it has been learnt.

Prof Jhaggar, who was appointed chairman BISE Rawalpindi on January 17, 2014, while talking to Dawn on Sunday said: “Yes, government has decided to remove me from my current position and most likely I will be appointed chairman BISE Faisalabad.”

He confirmed that the Principal Asghar Mall College would replace him. “We both are waiting for the official notification which is likely to be issued on Monday,” he said.

Sources in the BISE Rawalpindi said the decision to remove the incumbent chairman was taken by the secretary higher education Punjab, who the other day visited the city and discussed the board affairs with the chairman.

The sources said the secretary higher education was given a briefing by the chairman on the ongoing matriculation examinations and the rechecking issue of 9th class exams 2013.

The chairman failed to satisfy the secretary on the issue that led to his removal, said the sources.

However, the outgoing chairman said his presentation and meeting with the secretary higher education had nothing to do with his removal.

It may be noted that last year the BISE made headlines for issuing faulty results.

Many students of 9th class were mistakenly failed in the exams and later declared pass after rechecking of their papers.

Even four brilliant students of Government Higher Secondary School Parial were initially declared fail in the exam.

“My removal or transfer has nothing to do with my presentation rather it is a routine matter. During my stay, I did my best to improve the performance of the board,” Prof Jhaggar told Dawn.

When contacted, Secretary BISE Rawalpindi Dr Jawaid said: “There are reports that the incumbent chairman is going to be replaced by Dr Zareef but the notification is yet to be issued,” he said.

Principal Asghar Mall College Dr Zareef said after being short-listed by the search committee his case had been pending with the authorities for appointment as chairman BISE anywhere in province.

“Now there are reports that I’m going to be appointed as the chairman BISE Rawalpindi,” he said.
