ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said Tuesday that Monday's attack in Islamabad had put a question mark on the capital city’s security, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives outside the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) after visiting the injured victims of the attack in the federal capital, Shah said the security situation in Islamabad had not been addressed appropriately.

He said the opposition was neither demanding the resignation of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan nor was it engaging in point-scoring but it was important to underscore that the public should be granted protection.

He also said that the government was fortunate that the opposition did not resort to mudslinging but said it was time the country defeated the menace of terrorism by formulating effective strategies.

Monday's gun and bomb attack on the district courts in the heart of Islamabad left 11 people, including a district and sessions judge, dead. It was the first time a judge was killed in a terrorist rampage inside a courtroom.

Hours after the attack, opposition lawmakers in both the Senate and National Assembly had slammed the government over what they saw as a failure of its security agencies after recent claims by Chaudhry Nisar that Islamabad was very safe.
