HYDERABAD: A five-month-old baby died of pneumonia and malnutrition at the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) Hyderabad after being moved there from Mithi civil hospital early on Friday morning.

Another 10-month-old baby who was brought to the LUH from Mithi was in a critical condition. LUHs Hyderabad and Jamshoro medical superintendent Dr Khalid Hussain Shaikh told Dawn that five-month-old Farzana Bux died of pneumonia, malnutrition and breathing problems soon after she was brought to the nutrition stabilisation centre of the paediatric unit at 7am this morning. But, the 10-month-old Jesho Bheel was being given treatment who was also shifted from Mithi civil hospital at 4am. He was suffering from severe pneumonia and malnutrition. The babies were residents of Mithi.

Dr Jameel Soomro who was the only doctor present in the unit said that Jesho’s condition was serious. Head of the paediatric unit Dr Akbar Nizamani was not available for comments.

The MS said the hospitals had all required resources including medicines and doctors to treat any patient coming from Mithi or other Tharparkar areas. The baby’s body had been sent to Mithi.
