ISLAMABAD: Master plan for the Gadani Power Park was unveiled on Friday at a meeting in Gadani between Nargis Sethi, the chief executive officer of the Pakistan Power Park Management Company Ltd (PPPMCL), and representatives of consulting companies the Royal Hesconage, Lahmar International and Nespak.

The plan envisages construction of 10 coal-fired power plants, each having capacity of generating 660MW of electricity. It also provides for construction of a dedicated jetty where coal will be unloaded from ships.

The project will have all the required facilities, including cooling plants, conveyer belts, storage facilities and ash disposal mechanism.

The plan also envisages an advanced power supply system for connecting the plants with the national grid.

Meanwhile, Ms Sethi told reporters after the meeting that unveiling of the master plan had made it possible for investors to raise funds because the document provided key information about project location, viability and infrastructure design.

The information was needed by investors to assess the feasibility of the project and evaluate the probable rate of return on investment.

Ms Sethi said the formulation of the plan in little over a month was proof that the authorities, particularly the officials of the PPPMCL, were serious in completing the project as soon as possible.
