SWABI: Police claimed here on Monday to have arrested the killer of two policemen during a search operation in Razaar tehsil of the district.

Addressing a press conference, District Police Officer Sajjad Khan said that four proclaimed offenders were also arrested in the district. He said that the operation was conducted in Asota, Parmuli and Shewa areas of the tehsil.

The DPO said that they arrested the killer of two policemen -- Sabir Khan and Amjad Ali -- during the operation. The arrested person was identified as Uzair Khan, a resident of Asota village.

“He has confessed to his involvement in the killing of the policemen. He also planted a bomb in the hujra of Awami National Party leader Asmatullah Khan in Karnal Sher Khan Kallay,” the official said.

He said that investigations were underway to trace other people involved in targeted killings in the district. “We hope more information would be extracted from the arrested killer because he was not alone,” Mr Khan said.

He said that police also arrested four proclaimed offenders. One of the arrested persons identified as Lal Zada belonged to Chugah area of Shangla district while the remaining three -- Khairul Ibrar, Khairul Inam and Irfan Khan -- were residents of Shewa village, he added.

“We have recovered two Kalashnikovs, three Kalakovs, one M-16 rifle, four shotguns, 10 pistols and a large number of rounds during the operation,” the official said.

Meanwhile, a man was killed allegedly by his brother over a monetary dispute here on Monday.

The widow of the deceased told City police station that her husband Wahid Ali and his brother Wahab Ali exchanged harsh words over some domestic issue. She said that Wahab opened firing on Wahid and killing him on the spot. The suspect managed to escape after the incident.

FAREWELL PARTY: A function was organised here on Monday in the honour of Ikramullah, who retired as headmaster of government high school Manki, after remaining associated with the profession of teaching for four decades. MNA Aqibullah Khan, MPA Babar Khan, EDO Abdus Salam and leaders of All Teachers Association attended the function.

The speakers lauded the services of Ikramullah, saying teachers played key role in promotion of societies. They said that no one could deny the role of teachers and their contribution to the society.

“It is the teacher, who can make the life of people prosperous in this world and the world after death,” said the MNA.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Babar vowed to work for resolution of the problems of teachers. “The reservations of teachers about the newly introduced cluster system would be addressed,” he said.

The EDO said on the occasion that education was a corruption-free department. He said that they would work for a corruption-free society. Mr Ikramullah said that civilised people always respected their teachers. “The culture to honour teachers should be strengthened in our society,” he said.
