KARACHI: Fancied Neighbourhood United Club lived up to its billing by getting the better of Karachi Renegades Club 38-30 to cruise into final of the Pakistan Day basketball tournament at the Arambagh floodlit court on Thursday.

Neighbourhood United, who emerged group A champions with an unbeaten record, enjoyed an edge over their opponents by capitalising scoring opportunities that came their way.

As usual, their prolific scorer Ahad Javeri stole the limelight with 19 points. He was ably supported by Shakir Hashim who contributed nine. Faisal Masood (9), Saifullah and Azeem six apiece, scored for the losers.

Neighbourhood United meets Dow International Medical Club (DIMC) in the Sunday’s final after the latter whipped fighting Bounce Club 39-35 in extra time.

Ghazi Khan finished with the double figures of 14 while Ammar Aqeel amassed nine for winning outfit. Syed Mubashir and Bilal Khan scored 12 and 11 respectively for losers.

The two losing semi-finalists — Bounce Club and Karachi Renegades Club — will face each other in the third position playoff on Saturday at 7.00pm while the final between Neighbourhood United and DIMC will be played on Sunday at 7.00pm.
