PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has given Rs7 million to the Peshawar High Court Bar Association for the welfare of the provincial capital.
A cheque of the money was handed over to president of the association Ishtiaq Ibrahim advocate by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak here at a function held here the other day, says a handout. According to the handout, the amount was Rs2 million more than the grant given to the association last year by the previous government.
Besides Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General Abdul Latif Yousafzai, Additional Advocate General Qaiser Ali Shah, Deputy Advocate General Haji Sohail, Speaker of the provincial assembly Asad Qaisar, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Mineral Development Ziaullah Afridi, Adviser on Housing Amjad Afridi, DDAC chairman Ishtiaq Urmar, law secretary Mohammad Arifeen Khan and other relevant officials were also in attendance.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister expressed the hope that the office-bearers of the bar would not only work for the lawyers’ welfare but would also help judiciary dispense speedy and cheap justice to the people.
He said advocacy was an honourable profession through which not only lawyers would get the blessings of the Almighty Allah and the people’s prayers but it would also lead to the creation of crime-free and justice-based welfare society, a key component of the PTI government’s agenda of change.— Bureau Report
