TIMERGARA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa senior minister and deputy chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Sirajul Haq said on Tuesday that the federal government should keep education sector with it as provincial autonomy concerning education would lead to disunity and disintegration of the nation.

Addressing inaugural ceremony of a private school at Chakdara as chief guest, he said that the provincial government was planning to introduce an education system where poor people would have the right to get quality education.

He claimed that the provincial government was working on a mega project for the next 100 years for Peshawar city that included construction of roads, flyovers, underpasses and provision of drinking water.

About performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, he said that they were committed to root out corruption and establish the rule of law.

Mr Haq said that the unjust distribution of national resources had paved the way to formation of Bangladesh. He said that Rs3,421 billion had been spent on development projects during the last four years of which only Rs49 billion were given to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that under the NFC award the province had 14.16 per cent share in national resources, but it was receiving only 1.4 per cent. Mr Haq, who also holds the portfolio of finance minister, said that the provincial government would adopt every legal, political and judicial procedure to get its due share and right from the centre.

Managing director of Iqra Education System Mirajuddin and former MNA Bakhtiar Maani also spoke on the occasion. Lower Dir president of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Fakhruz Zaman, political activists, teachers and parents attended the function.

CHAKDARA ROAD: Awami National Party’s spokesman Senator Zahid Khan said on Tuesday that work on Chakdara-Chitral road would be started soon as PC-I of the project had been approved.

Talking to mediapersons here at Chakdara, he claimed that Rs500 million had been spent on the construction of Chakdara bridge. He said that Rs10 million had been approved by the federal government for repair work on Chakdara-Timergara road.

PML-N leader Amir Muqam had inaugurated the Chakdara bridge on March 11 and opened it to traffic.

TB DAY: Relief International in collaboration with TB Control Programme organised a walk here the other day in connection with the World TB Day.

District health officer Dr Mohammad Rahman and TB Control Programme head Dr Fida Mohammad said on the occasion that TB was a curable disease, but it needed mass awareness. They said that each health unit in the district had the facility to provide free of cost medical treatment to TB patients.
