QUETTA: The team of Pakistan Customs, Quetta, has won the Balochistan Sports Festival Canoeing Championship 2014.

A four-day training camp and three-day championship were held by the Hayat Durrani Water Sports Academy (HDWSA) at Hanna Lake under the patronage of the Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation (PCKF) and Balochistan Canoeing Association in collaboration with the provincial sports ministry as part of the sports festival.

The HDWSA and the Quetta City Canoeing Club stood second and third, followed by the Loralai, Ziarat and Qillah Saifullah clubs.

Muhammad Abu Bakar Durrani of Pakistan Customs Sports Board clinched three gold medals and was declared the best athlete of the championship. In all, 63 seniors, boys and girls participated in the championship.

Other medal winners included Muhammad Umar Durrani, Muhammad Yousaf, Ziauddin Kasi, Musawir Khan Khilji, Izatullah Kakar, Sardar Mohammad, Neha Ayaz, Tahmina Mehak and Kulsoom Jaffar.

Hayatullah Khan Durrani, secretary general of the Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation and director of the Asian Canoe Confederation, lauded the cooperation extended for the competition by Csaba Szanto, an expert from the International Canoe Federation.

The chief guest, Lt Gen Nasir Khan Janjua, Commander, Southern Command, awarded certificates, medals and commemorative souvenirs to the position holders.
