Sindh Assembly demands end to CII

KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly Monday demanded the disbandment of the Council of Islamic Ideology while passing a resolution to stop implementation on the CII's earlier decisions, DawnNews reported.
The resolution was moved by Pakistan Muslim League-Functional's (PML-F) leader Mehtab Akhtar Rashidi.
The Assembly expressed serious reservations over the recent decisions taken by the CII with regards to women.
It moreover demanded of the federal government that any implementation of the CII’s recommendations on underage marriages and DNA tests should be stopped
The CII has come under fire with its controversial statements and rulings.
Earlier this month, the CII had ruled that laws related to minimum age of marriage were un-Islamic and that children of any age could get married if they attain puberty.
CII chairman Maulana Mohammad Khan Sheerani had said that the age of puberty varied from individuals to individuals and that it was the responsibility of guardians to have ruksati as soon as the child attains the age of puberty.
It had also said that the current law requiring a man to seek written permission from his wife before contracting a second marriage should be amended.
“The government should amend the law to make the issue of more than one marriage easy and in accordance with Sharia," Sheerani had said.

What a joke- the Government is being asked to amend the law to make more than one marriage "easy and in accordance with Shariah". I thought the conditions for more than one marriage are very strict indeed as ASWT tells us how difficult it is to treat Wives equally. So why would it be made easy? Which Shariah is the CII advocating? The Taliban Shariah or the Sheerani Shariah? How true what Iqbal has to say " Goongi ho gai Aaj kuch zuban Kehte Kehte Hichkicha Gaya Me Khud ko Musalman

Being a Muslim , I'm so angry with these so called maulanas of CII. These kind of people has caused so much damage to the religion and country, they should be banned and be dealt with no leniency. Lets keep it simple, we don't need guidance from these people.

The best thing to do. It is an unelected body . There is no need for such a body because most of the members of the Assembly are Muslims and should have the authority of the electorate to make laws.
While on this subject get rid of the Resolution that makes an unwelcome presence in the constitution.

CII should be banned. Only laws according to constitution and panel code of Pakistan should be followed. We should get rid of these Mullah's if we want to prosper. Our Qauid Muhammad Ali Jinnah(RA) was in favour of secular Islam instead of fundamentalism.

These mullahs have made us a laughing stock in the world. There is no point in having a Council of Islamic Ideology if the members are uneducated and want to take us away from real Islam to stone age. Do you think God will be unhappy with us if we allow wedding on adulthood? Why a man should be given a free hand to marry as many women as he likes when it is not possible to do justice even to one in present time? DNA evidence is another mind boggling issue for mullahs. We as a nation should debate such issues at national level and fundamental matters should not be left at the mercy of uneducated mullahs only.

It is time government of Pakistan should outlaw CII and all religious and sectarian groups who hinder the performance of elected government. Pakistan came into existence without any help of Mullahs, Maulanas, Peers etc. and it will successfully continue to exist without their help, Insha Allah. Pakistanis no longer need them to be a better Pakistani or better Muslim. The elected representatives of Pakistan in Federal and Provincial parliaments are the only people empowered to make laws for Pakistan for the best interest of Pakistanis. If any Mullah, Maulana or Peer wishes to be elected for Parliaments, they must disassociate themselves from religious or sectarian groups that divides Muslim Ummah.

Finally our political leaders are developing the courage to stand up to fundamentalist religious lobby. Enough is enough.
