GUJRAT: District Police Officer Rai Ijaz Ahmed has dismissed around 50 cops of Gujrat police for long absence from duty and due to involvement (of a few of them) in criminal cases and corruption. Most of the dismissed cops have settled abroad and never returned even after the lapse of their official leave and despite the issuance of notices.

Official sources said 35 of the dismissed cops had been found absent from duty whereas seven cops, including a female constable, were found involved in criminal cases.

Two policemen were nominated in corruption cases with the Anti Corruption Establishment and one was reportedly involved in a murder case.

Among the sacked is a cop who was recruited recently but he skipped training and disappeared. Summoned, he appeared before the inquiry officer and pleaded that he could not continue with the training but wanted to continue with the police job. The DPO however dismissed him.
