KARACHI: The Muslim Commercial Bank assured the locker holders on Tuesday that it would compensate those who suffered losses due to a bank robbery on Saturday.
Robbers succeeded to break lockers of the Safe Deposit Vault being run by the MCB Employees Foundation, but the police were not ready to accept it a bank robbery while the bank maintained a silence over the situation.
“MCB and its foundation deeply regret the unfortunate incident of dacoity at the Safe Deposit Vault in the Soldier Bazaar, Karachi, involving 52 lockers last Saturday night,” said a press release issued by the bank.
The bank accepted and owned the responsibility through the press release.
“This act of vandalism affected us and our valued customers,” said the MCB press release.
“It is matter of deep anguish and concern for us,” it said. “As part of our continuing commitment to serving our valued customers, we are undertaking all possible efforts to compensate the affected locker-holders as provided under the law,” said the MCB.
However, it did not give further explanation what compensation locker-holders would get under the law.
“A special desk has been set up at the Safe Deposit Vault premises at Soldier Bazar Karachi to support and respond to queries,” the bank said.
The press release also provided phone numbers (021-32257540-32240271) for assistance for compensation.
There is a general impression that bank lockers are not safe in Karachi as breaking of lockers takes place frequently in the city.
