KARACHI: Omar Associates and Hyderabad won their Southern Zone matches in the 16th National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament here at the weekend.
Omar Associates defeated Moin Khan Academy by 25 runs and Hyderabad hammered Jamshoro by 143 runs, according to details made available by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) on Monday.
Omar Associates overpowered Moin Khan Academy in a tall-scoring match at the TMC Ground.
Omar Associates, batting first, scored 225-7 due to a late onslaught after they were reeling at 135-7. But the 90-run unbroken seventh wicket stand between Man-of-the-Match Iqbal Sheikh (49) and Ahmed Hanif (41) steered them to a healthy total.
Dr Kamal (2-26) and Mahmood Hamid (2-38) were the successful bowlers for the Moin Khan Academy.
Mahmood then scored an unbeaten 64 off 44 balls but that was not enough to save his side from defeat as Moin Khan, Ghulam Ali and Rashid Latif all perished while trying to force the pace.
Moin Khan Academy were finally restricted to 200-6 in the allotted 25 overs, which was 26 runs short of their target. Left-arm spinner Nadeem Musa took 2-28.
Shahid Ansari’s century and Ahmed Ali’s five-wicket haul fired Hyderabad to an emphatic 143-run victory over Jamshoro at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad. Both shared the Man-of-the-Match award.
Opener Shahid smashed three sixes and 13 fours in making 100 off 67 balls to provide Hyderabad an explosive start. The late flourish was provided by Daulat Ram (52) and Rashid Khan (33) which raised the total to 260-6 in 25 overs.
Leg-spinner Abid Baloch captured 3-28.
Jamshoro succumbed under the pressure of the huge score and wickets kept on tumbling at regular intervals with none of their batsmen coming to terms with the deadly spin of Ahmed Ali who tormented them with impressive figures of five for 15 in four overs as Jamshoro slumped to 117-9.
