ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has summoned a meeting of political and government aides on Sunday to discuss the situation that has arisen after the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir that took place in Karachi on Saturday evening, DawnNews reported.
The doctors responsible for treating Mir have reported his condition is out of danger.
The government has been urged to provide security to the journalists in the wake of yesterday’s attack on Mir, an attack on journalist Raza Rumi last month, and several other similar attacks on the members of the journalist community in Pakistan.
PM Sharif also met with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan earlier to discuss the incident.
The police have managed to prepare sketches of the assailants with the help of three eyewitnesses. An investigation committee led by the additional inspector general of police also has been formed.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon announced that the provincial government would award Rs50 million to those who assist the police in nabbing those who attacked journalist Hamid Mir on Saturday evening.
The incident has been widely condemned by the journalistic, social and political circles in Pakistan and abroad.
Senior journalist and TV anchorperson Hamid Mir, who is affiliated with Geo TV, was attacked on Sharae Faisal near Natha Khan area when the gunmen opened fire on his vehicle around 5:30pm on Saturday.

Journalists safety is very importnat in Pakistan. They bring trasperency to things happening in Pakistan and they bring out the real problems facing the Pakistani society. If jounalists are having freedom to report and give unbiased opinions then number of conspiracy theories going around in Pakistan shall be minimised and real problems and issues facing the country shall be better understood by general public.

The recent attack on Hamid Mir and the attacks on journalist community as whole are shameful. Who ever is involved in such cowardly acts must be dragged to justice. The voices can never be suppressed by guns and bullet and they must understand the fact that pens are always superior than swords.

PPP government in Sindh appointed their blue eyed boy, Iqbal Mehmood, as the new IG. So much for the new IG ! And, what will the PM do or achieve by calling a meeting? If it is really the ISI, there is absolutely nothing the PM or his entire PML-N can do. One slap on the wrist of the PM by the ISI would be suffice for him to curl up like a scary cat.

Two angered politicians, one ex-president and another the sitting PM met in Islamabad last week to discuss the problems with the Army, they are facing,in perspective of running the affairs of the State, particularly related to the foriegn AID and Taleban,to finalize their agenda. The agenda of both the politicians has been to fix the Army and ISI to the wall. Presently, the world scenario is going in their favor. Successive incidents are happening these days, in one or the other way, to reach at their goal as soon as possible. Yesterday's incident on a journalist seems to be a part of their agenda.

I have yet to understand as to why and on which basis Jang Group has accused Gen Zaheer Ul Islam for the incident? If it is just meant to defame the country's biggest intelligence agency, I think it's not good. Yes; if they have some solid reasons for the blame, those reasons must be brought to the notice of public of Pakistan, who have the right to know.

In the prevailing situation, anybody could have committed this despicable act and army or ISI institutions would have blamed... It's unprofessional to blame anybody purely based on speculation... My heartfelt sympathies with Mr. Mir and his family.

its not fair to blame ISI for MIR attack.Ii hamid family has strong evidence about the responsibility of attack is upon ISI then show it to all public otherwise ISI must sue on hamid family and maintain its dignity.ISI is not such pathetic orginization that will do this type of act. and my humble request to hamid family is to please be logical and show proofs if they have any

This is the rite time to act and bell those cat's for ever, if this is not done now it will never be done ever, then we should not be ashamed when they give there comments about Pakistan but keep our eyes and ears closed and face the truth.

It is strange that a person can predict who is going to kill them. Any normal human knowing that would have headed to the court or bring out the evidence to stop themselves from being killed.
This whole plot and than coming out without any evidence to start blaming some one it just seems fake.

So many innocent people die daily and we keep brutal and chilling silence. But when someone special gets hurt, it's a fertile situation to score points. I wish Hamid Mir fast recovery but don't forget many unknown sufferers at the hands of terrorists. Blaming ISI is another trajedy... Where are we heading as a nation?

After the assasination attempt, I was shocked to see the divergent approaches of GEO and ARY. Whereas, GEO was was all on fire, ARY did not comment for quite some time. Since, a senior journalist was involved, ARY should have given at least a breaking news for Hamid Mir.
That says a lot for the Journalists unity.

The high ups know exactly who are the attackers. Musharaf had to use same route later on his arrival to Karachi. Since, Musharaf is the most protected individual, same route should have been monitored hours before his journey. Similarly, Hamid Mir's travel on same road could not have been gone unnoticed especially the attack.
Such protocol for VIP's is always under strict vigilance by intelligence and armed security enroute. The initial inquiry needs to find the number of intelligence agencies involved in protection duties and the reason why they were unable to react or trace the culprits.
The findings will take the clue further towards the perpetrators as someone definitely knows something.

Dear Diploma Pakistan is changing and there has to be civilian rule and supermacy over every thing. No more ISI or Army shadow governements. ISI and Pakistan Army are confined to their cantonements, they need to come out and see how much people are fed up with the mess they have created.

I see no reason for prime minster calling a judicial probe for hamid Mir as he has no grounds . Any body with Intention to defame the country shot him and he blames the country ISI and his pointing finger at country most respected institution well he commited a treason act first him and his brother should be charge under the treason act. Prime minster wake up and stand for the country thinking on same lines as hamid Mir you just jumping on a band wagon is childish . I tell you if ISI want to get rid off him he will be many other way then shooting at him and also ISI has more important things to do than sort out hamid Mir who can be easily put into jail for 10 to 15 years plz think thousand times before believing thAt ISI done this. Prime minster open your eyes on other matters which are grave concern I.e road traffic accident which are almost every day kills scores of Pakistanis do something about it live hamid MIr matter to police.

Foreign news papers are reporting that attack on Hamid is organized by ISI. He is supposed to have collected some documentary proof against a senior official of the ISI. The ISI wants to get rid of him. The documentary proof is with another journalist friend and Hamid is blaming the ISI and specific ISI official for his attack and potential death. I Dawn allows this email to be published that would be in support of Hamid.

I pray to Allah swt for early recovery of brother Hamid Mir. Did PM call for high level meeting to investigate innocent lives lost in past terrorist acts. Was there a bounty placed to find faces who did the those acts. All humans are equal!.

But why offer as reward for informaion? Pakistan has several intelligence agencies as well as its ally PRISM, which collects meta data round the clock and monitirs communication networks. They have the answer.
