NAWABSHAH, July 7: Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, convener Anti-Thal Canal Action Committee, has said that the people of Sindh would not allow anyone to steal Sindh’s share of water.
He was addressing the motorcade rally of anti-Thal Canal committee at the cinema chowk, Sakrand on Sunday.
Mr Khuhro said the construction of Greater Thal Canal was a conspiracy against Sindh to destroy its lands and economy.
He alleged the Thal canal would irrigate 300,000 acres of lands of generals, including that of Gen Musharraf. He criticized the visit of Punjab’s governor to Sindh, saying he had came to stop the Mutahedda Qaumi Movement from protest.
Khalid Mehmood Soomro, general secretary MMA Sindh said that thousands of acres of land of Sindh was rendered barren due to a shortage of water and that the construction of Thal Canal would destroy more lands.
Dr Qadir Magsi said each child of Sindh would sacrifice his last drop of blood but would not allow the construction of anti- Sindh project. Rasool Bux Palijo said there was a need to build a strong democratic force of Sindh for a long peaceful struggle to stop work on the project.
The leaders of the committee after attending gatherings at Qazi Ahmed, Doulatpur, and Shahpur Jehanian on Monday morning reached Nawabshah where they addressed a rally at the Masjid Road.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: An anti-Thal canal rally was taken out by the PPP, the Awami Tehrik, the Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party, the Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam, and the Jeay Sindh Mahaz on Monday.
Thousands of people including activists of political and religious parties and women participated in the public meeting at the Allahwala Chowk, Naushahro Feroze.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP Provincial President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Awami Tehrik Chief Rasool Bux Palejo, STPP Chief Qadir Magsi, Maulana Siraj Ahmed of the JUI, Gul Mohammad Jakhrani (SNF), PML(N) leader Afzal Gujjar, and MPA Abdul Haq Bhurut criticized the policies of President Gen Pervez Musharraf saying they had proved to be a failure.
